Clubs

We have several clubs who use the pub on a regular basis and regular ongoing events such as the blind meet on the first Wednesday of each month, the band meet after practice on Wednesdays, the counselors are a regular crew who come after college, we have Goths who come in before disembarking to Manchester on one of there regular outings, the bus drivers still come in, we have had poetry evenings on a regular basis and as we have a piano we get our regular pianists turning up to give us a tune including Howard Broadbent.

There is a scuba divers club and a cyclists club that meet not to mention the myriad of other small groups and parties that turn up from time to time including the communists, the fascists, the socialists, the unionists, Hick Hargreaves re unionists, Gregory and Porritts reunions, Sainsburys staff, Morrisons staff, Grosvenor casino staff, councilors, the Indians when there is a wedding on, morris dancers, badminton clubs, camra and last but not least the dwindling band we call the Sweet Green Mafia made up of the aged 60+ of drinkers that have been coming here since time began.

We are an old style pub that wins awards for its hospitality which makes it an ideal place to meet your friends or if you have a club and want a small cozy room to come and meet in, in the center of town, close to the bus and rail networks then give us a call. Other pubs are trying to represent their internal image of what a good pub should be like after all the open planning and the formica years, were at the Sweet Green we seem to be used as the model for what everyone else is trying to get back to, we are proud of our heritage and tradition.

We have a snug, a vault, a cozy window seat near the open coal fire, a small lounge and a slightly larger lounge

We have a bar seat area were our regulars sit and has been christened the “clicketts corner”.

At one end of the bar we have the “bar flies” similar to what you would find in “cheers” made up of the wits

There is a pool room and a vault and a smaller lounge.
